I still remember the first time I saw the Eiffel Tower in person. I was part of an organised tour and had just spent 12 days gallivanting across Western Europe. Our final stop was Paris. As our coach made its towards the Eiffel Tower I had an “is this really happening?” moment while I watched her get closer. The iconic image that I’d seen on television and in books was there, almost close enough for me to reach out and touch. That afternoon I rode the elevators to the top of the Eiffel Tower and took in the views of what is now my favourite city. I was smitten, and knew then that my life had changed.
I’ve since returned to Paris many times. I’ve travelled further into France as well; I’ve dipped my toes into waters on 2 different coasts and canoed along a picturesque river in the countryside. I’ve seen storybook chateaux come to life before my eyes and gone through centuries of history in churches, museums and art galleries. Let’s not forget the food, which alone justifies every high priced airline ticket I’ve ever purchased.
avec Margot is where I share my favourite French memories, recommendations and tips. Having been to France many times, I’ve been fortunate to move past the expected tourist spots and pretend to live like a temporary local. I hope you’ll join me on my aventures françaises.
